OHSU Friends of Doernbecher is a volunteer organization dedicated to long-term support for the hospital. Friends chapters include volunteers from across Oregon and southwest Washington. These chapters hold fundraising events in their communities to raise awareness and funds for Doernbecher Children's Hospital.
"It’s amazing what we can do when we come together."
DRU'S CHAPTER- was started over 12 years ago and named in honor of Dru Mitchell who was born at Doernbecher Children's Hospital in 1995 with a birth defect called an Omphalocele where the abdominal organs protrude through the abdomen. Dru's parents found out about his diagnosis before he was born and were told he might not survive. Thanks to his surgeon and many other doctors and nurses at Doernbecher who worked to save Dru's life, he is now 19 years old and doing great. He is still a patient at Doernbecher.
The purpose of Dru's Chapter, through its volunteers, is to act as ambassadors of OHSU Doernbecher Childrens Hospital by developing events and products to procure funds that will directly benefit the well-being of the children.
